Aristide Olivier has been returned as mayor of Caen after a convincing victory in the second round of the municipal election. Olivier took 59.38% of the vote, comfortably ahead of his two left-wing rivals, according to official results published by the French Interior Ministry. His list will now hold 44 seats on the new municipal council.

Rudy L'Orphelin, backed by a broader left-wing alliance, finished second with 25.51% of the vote, while Aurélien Guidi of La France Insoumise took 15.12%. The result means that Olivier, who took over from former mayor Joël Bruneau in 2024, has now won his first full municipal election as the city's leading candidate.
An unsurprising outcome, in keeping with the first round's results
The outcome had appeared likely after the first round, when Olivier fell just short of an outright victory with 48.51%. The second round largely confirmed that pattern. While the left retained a significant presence, it remained divided between two separate lists, making it difficult to compete with Olivier's list.
Caen's second-round result confirmed what the first vote had already suggested: that Aristide Olivier is the candidate with the broadest support in the city. More widely, the picture across Normandy was one of relative stability, with many local contests following the direction set in the first round. In Caen, as elsewhere in the region, the election ended not with a surprise reversal but with a consolidation of existing political strengths.
