It's an increasingly common feature of public transportation: occasional travellers no longer need to buy a ticket, instead they can simply tap their payment card or device to the terminal. An ease of use feature already common in many major cities across Europe, tap and pay is now coming to Caen.

No need to buy a ticket, as of tomorrow (5th May 2026), getting a bus or tram in the Caen area will be as easy as tapping a payment card or device against the reader. | © Caen la mer (source: LinkedIn)
The new feature was announced in an article, published today on Twisto's website (Caen La Mer's public transport operator, managed by the RATP).
"From 5th May, you will be able to pay directly for your bus and tram journeys with your contactless bank card, directly on the validators."
On all buses and trams
The feature will work on all ticket validators on board the city's trams. Simply tap a payment card or use a device with a virtual wallet (phone, watch...) and no need to buy a ticket.
Contactless payment will also become available on the ticket validator located at the front of all regular buses, as well as the ones located by the central door on all articulated buses.
The feature is also said to allow for multiple people (up to five at a time) to travel on a single payment card.
