Following the success of Caen's thousand year anniversary "Millénaire" inauguration, this year's 14th of July firework display has been moved from its usual position at the "Prairie" horse racing track to William the Conqueror's castle in the city centre.

For the first time in Caen's history this year's 14th of July fireworks will be fired from the castle grounds; spectators are invited to watch the show from the street by the Saint-Pierre gate. The castle's grounds will not be accessible to the public throughout the evening.

The display will begin at nightfall, from 11pm tonight.

Traffic and parking restrictions will be put in place

As of 8pm, driving through certain parts of the city will be forbidden. Streets in front of the castle will be closed to traffic, mainly Rue de Geôle, Rue du Vaugueux, Rue Saint-Jean and Saint-Pierre. Parking restrictions are already being imposed (since 12 o'clock this afternoon) in these areas with exceptions for people with mobility issues and disabilities.

Parts of Caen's city centre will be difficult to access this evening as a result of the firework display. For more information on traffic flow regulations and parking exemptions, you can visit Caen's website page dedicated to the event: https://caen.fr/actualite/feu-dartifice-du-14-juillet-circulation-stationnement.
