The 25th edition of the Pride March in Caen got off to a rocky start. At 3:30 pm, on Saturday (13th June), the chariot, which was supposed to head up the march, broke down. Despite this minor setback, the event turned out to be a success, with around 3,000 attendees of all ages taking part.

It was a colourful and peaceful event that began on Caen's peninsula (or presqu'île) neighbourhood yesterday. Thousands gathered for the city's 25th Pride March, a show of solidarity and colours as the participants took to the streets to proclaim their right to be who they are.
A short loop through Caen's city centre
From its starting point, by the city's library, to Tour Leroy (near the docks), up to the Castle and back down via the high street, this year's march was a peaceful event. The overall mood was relaxed: there were colourful clothes, signs with political statements and puns written on them and a general sense of unity.

At the end of the march, the Pride Village had a variety of things to offer, from charities to sexual prevention associations, from snacks and food trucks to small shops.
"There will always be people who want to promote hatred"
One of the participants said she was taking part in the march to defend her rights. Another one declared that he was proud to be "pansexual" and described it as "loving everyone".
