The break-in took place while the occupant was away from the property. Several items were taken, including a bank card, which was then used on Sunday, 1st February. Upon noticing the transaction, the victim promptly alerted the police.
Officers were able to review surveillance footage provided by a local shopkeeper, allowing members of the BAC (anti-crime brigade, or brigade anti-criminalité), a plainclothes branch of the Police Nationale, to identify and arrest the suspect. After the arrest, police found stolen items in his possession, including a designer bag.
The man later appeared in court facing charges linked to both the burglary and the fraudulent use of the payment card. He was found guilty and sentenced to ten months in prison, with an immediate custodial order.
