Traffic collision near Caen leaves pedestrian severely injured

At around 7:30 this morning (Thursday, 6th November 2025), the emergency services responded to the scene of a collision in Giberville, near Caen. A vehicle reportedly collided with a pedestrian as he exited from a bakery; he was driven to Caen's CHU hospital by ambulance.

The incident took place earlier today on "route de Rouen", in Giberville (to the East of Caen). A 47-year-old man was reportedly hit by a car, resulting in serious injuries.
The causes of the crash remain to be determined
According to witnesses of the crash, the pedestrian had recently left the local bakery and was on a zebra crossing at the time of the collision. The driver of the vehicle was described as young and has since been arrested by the gendarmerie.
A local fire brigade was first on scene; however, the man was later transported to the hospital in a SMUR ambulance (Service Mobile d'Urgence et Reanimation – Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service), an advanced medical response ambulance which responds to the most serious incidents.
The man was said to have been in critical condition at his arrival in the hospital.
